Community Grants

Community Grants are funded by the Council’s net profits from various fundraisers, of which 90% is used for Community Grants. The funds from Community Grants are to be used for Protection & Preservation and Beautification initiatives on publicly owned or nonprofit land in Forsyth County, North Carolina.

There are Two Types of Community Grants:

  • A Protection & Preservation Grant is intended for the protection and preservation of landscapes and the natural environment. These initiatives include but are not limited to, the protection of natural resources, restoration of the natural environment, and preservation of the landscape. Expenses may include items such as speaker fees, sponsorships, and relevant materials.
  • A Beautification Grant is intended for the beautification of the environment. These initiatives include the planting of trees, shrubs and flowers, planting of fruits, vegetables, herbs, and grains for consumption. Plant materials should be perennials, trees, or shrubbery. Funds are intended to be for the long-term landscape, not for the year-in and year-out annual garden. Plants for human consumption will be considered for educational and community gardens. The Council will consider approval of expenses for plant material only. Expenses for labor, mulch, decorative rocks, gardening tools, irrigation systems, garden furniture, art, water features, statuary, shipping charges, etc., are not covered by this grant. A Beautification Grant request should be accompanied by a design/landscape plan (formal or informal), a list of plant materials with sizes, quantities, and costs; and a maintenance plan including the watering source and schedule. Invoices will be paid once the plant material is received.
